Inside Avon: Meet Our Director of Marketing for Skin Care, Health and Wellness and Fragrance

Miki has had a passion for beauty since she was a young girl.  She grew up admiring her aunt, a well-known perfumer for a prominent fragrance company and had the opportunity to shadow her at work as a teen—she’d help organize the fragrance closet.

“She was really my inspiration and admiration to go to FIT,” says Miki, who went on to study merchandising and marketing communications at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology.

Her first job out of college was at Calvin Klein, where she served as a marketing manager for the color and skin care departments. There, she helped launch iconic fragrances like Obsession and Eternity, which remain widely known today.

Miki also spent 6 years at Victoria’s Secret when its cosmetics collection was just getting started. She helped launch iconic products like Beauty Rush lip gloss and Very Sexy fragrance—which were quintessential products for the young beauty consumer in the early 2000s.

Miki remembers the company’s CEO saying, “know your customer like she’s your best friend,” and still uses this advice today. “You can produce product, but if the clientele doesn’t like it, then it’s not going to make money,” she explains.

Throughout the past 20 years, Miki has applied this advice to her various roles in the beauty departments of major cosmetic, fragrance and fashion brands where she honed her expertise in sales and marketing and helped bring products to life.

“I’ve kind of worked in all channels—manufacturing, specialty retail, the department store as well as CVS,” she says. “I feel that having that depth and breadth is very important in your career.”

In 2017, Miki began her journey with Avon. Over the past four years she worked in different roles including beauty merchandising, then personal care marketing, and today she serves as the Director of Marketing for skin care, health and wellness and fragrance.

In this role, she oversees the above categories and helping manage merchandising, forecasting, digital marketing and product development. Since she’s worked in so many different departments, Miki’s had the opportunity to test out many Avon products. A few of her favorites include Isa Knox Anew Clinical Collagen Booster Eye Lift Pro Dual Eye System, Avon True Color Love at 1st Lash Mascara and Veilment Natural Spa Himalaya Pink Salt Body Scrub & Cleanser.

While Miki loves marketing Avon products, her favorite part of her role is the people. She loves having fun and always tries to wear a smile.

“You have to love your job and you have to love who you work with,” she says.
