Celebrating National Entrepreneurs’ Day
National Entrepreneurs’ Day honors those who have taken a small idea and grown it into a flourishing business. Avon, a company built by and for entrepreneurs, has been empowering women to work for themselves for 135 years. In celebration of National Entrepreneurs’ Day 2020, we’re spotlighting some hard-working entrepreneurs from the community who inspire us.
LYDIA’S SUCCESS STORY
Lydia Riley, mother of four, joined Avon in 2000 to earn income while staying home and taking care of her children. She formed her own team, “Climbin’ Diamonds,” and developed it into a multi-million-dollar team that earned her a consistent six-figure income. Being an Avon Leader has given Lydia the opportunity to help finance her children’s private education, pilot training and mission trips. To this day, Lydia instills in her children a work ethic with tenacity. “My children know the value of hard work and carry within them an entrepreneurial spirit,” she said.
Lydia enjoys a close friendship with her team members and other Avon Leaders and loves watching their success. She was recognized by the Avon community as the 2018 Guiding Spirit Award honoree for her incredible work as a Representative who leads by example and propels her team to reach incredible achievements.
“I chose to believe in the power of residual income; this dream has paid off,” Lydia said. She has ultimately persevered and used keen leadership skills to become an entrepreneur with a successful Avon business.
PHENOLA’S INSPIRING ACHIEVEMENT
Phenola Moore joined Avon to dip her toes in the beauty industry. She sells to family, friends and co-workers and has utilized technology to acquire customers all over the country. She has made Avon’s Top 100 Report in Direct Delivery and is a President’s Club member.
Phenola’s hard work and determination have given her more than just income and sales. She received the prestigious Avon Scholarship for Representatives which helped her earn a B.A. in English with a minor in Journalism in 2017.
Phenola says that Avon has given her the tools to succeed in life through her business: “Avon was a way to jump into the entrepreneur pool, and I love every minute of this journey.”
PAULA’S PASSION PROJECT
When coworkers at her day job asked for someone to sell Avon, Paula Carroll stepped up to the task. She had been using Avon products since the early days of Skin So Soft in the ’70s, and decided to fulfill the request to become a seller—especially since her own Avon Representative retired. Paula is passionate about Avon products and loves being a business owner. Most of all, she enjoys the relationships she has built through selling Avon.
“My Avon customers are more than customers to me, they became friends and family,” she said. “These special days [like National Entrepreneurs’ Day] will help me contact my customers, provide my knowledge and years of experience to service my customers.”
