Something’s Gotta Go: 5 Time-Saving Tips To Ace Your Morning Routine

If your morning routine ends in a mad dash out the door and leaves you wondering why you couldn’t fit in breakfast — although you somehow managed to scroll social media — it’s time to do some sunrise soul searching. An efficient a.m. frees up hours to kill it in your career and sets the tone for a successful day ahead.

Being the beauty devotees that we are, skimping on primping is not an option, so we asked some rather powerful women to give us their time-saving tweaks for leaving the house feeling gorgeous, refreshed and ready to conquer the world.

1. Don't look at your phone.

Eliminating technology from your waking hours will not only save time, but may help you stay clear-headed throughout the day. Asha Dahya, creator and editor-in-chief of the female empowerment blog GirlTalkHQ, uses the moments she’s not looking at a screen to practice 20 minutes of morning meditation. “The benefits are immeasurable,” she tells us.

Philippines-based actress, entrepreneur and Avon Brand Ambassador Ruffa Gutierrez might just peek, but responding is a no-no. “I reply to messages, chats and posts on social media once I’m out the door,” she says.

If you can’t help but engage, stay focused. Jennifer Stith, VP of Communications and Brand Development at Bumble, does a quick scan for imperative emails. “Once I’ve determined if anything needs to be answered right away, I tailor my morning routine based on that.”

2. Bypass the blow-dryer (sometimes).

Gutierrez takes her cues from the minimally styled tresses shown on recent runways. “I put leave-in conditioner on my hair, towel dry it and immediately leave the house. It’s a more natural look — plus it saves me a lot of time,” she tells us.

Serial entrepreneur, motivational speaker and author Jen Groover suggests a touch-up with a curling iron or flat iron as a quick alternative to washing and drying, and Stith says she pulls her hair back into a slick ponytail to buy extra time in between shampoos.

3. Organize your beauty stash.

Build an easy-access pouch of your everyday essentials for an on-the-go kit to take with you for quick touch-ups. Keep the products that you’re more likely to use for a special night out — bold lipstick, dramatic eyeshadow — in a separate place. “It has cut down on so much time knowing exactly which products I am using and having them ready to go right when I need them,” says Dahya.

Here’s a little organization inspiration: Rebecca Luedemann, an Avon Representative in Goodyear, Arizona, always keeps mark. Consider any big meetings you might have or special plans (like going to the gym after work). And, of course, be sure to check the weather!

5. Master your morning menu.

To ensure that you don’t skip breakfast — or have to run out of the office the moment you arrive to grab a much-needed coffee and croissant— stock up on healthy eats in advance. “I make my grocery shopping list based on meals I have planned for the week to save money and time,” says Dahya. “It’s such a stress reliever and frees up time for me fit other things into my day.”
