We live in a time of uncertainty where stress is omnipresent and inevitable. As we work from home and ‘social distance’, we can’t help but think about the health and safety of our loved ones and ourselves. This stress causes us to lose sleep, get headaches and have trouble focusing, among other things. April is National Stress Awareness Month, so it’s a great time to face your stressors head-on. We’ve compiled some of our favorite ways to de-stress below.
Make time to relax.
Build a little ‘me time’ into your schedule every day. It can be easy to forget about self care, but it’s essential as we live through unprecedented times filled with stress. Set aside an hour, half an hour, or five minutes if you’re short on time, and devote that time to doing something that helps you feel calm and collected. Self-care activities look different for everyone—they can mean taking deep breaths, doing something creative, or lounging with a cup of tea.
Care for your body.
Treating your body properly is key to managing stress. Keep up a basic skin care routine—a foamy face wash like Rice Water Bright Foaming Cleanser and a lightweight moisturizer like belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb will keep skin feeling clean and smooth. For an even deeper cleanse, check out our collection of cleansers and toners.
Try to maintain a balanced diet—the CDC suggests eating colorful fruits and vegetables, along with lean proteins and whole grains. Consuming too many unhealthy foods can lead you to feel sluggish, while eating healthily will keep up your energy levels.
Stay active. Moving around will help loosen up your muscles and keep you looking and feeling healthy. The CDC recommends 150 minutes of exercise per week for adults, which is about 20 minutes a day. Take a walk, do some yoga, or do any other workout you enjoy.
Take time to unplug.
Taking a break from the outside world is a great way to de-stress. Avoid the news, log out of social media and turn off the TV. Your life will instantly feel less hectic and you’ll be able to focus on how you feel without distractions.
Create a calming environment.
Clean your room, hang up your favorite poster and light a candle for some ambiance. Try the refreshing Honeysuckle Blossom Candle, complete with notes of florals wrapped in a sweet embrace. You can also enhance your environment with some essential oils, like Avon Aromatherapy Minding My Mood 4-in-1 Essential Oil Blends. Available in both a calming blend and an energizing blend, these oils are perfect to put on your pulse points and will leave your mind, body and spirit feeling refreshed and relaxed. When your surroundings are peaceful, you’ll feel at peace too. Once you create your ideal environment, use this ‘me time’ to meditate, write in a journal, listen to music, read, or just simply relax.
Talk to loved ones.
Call, text and video chat with your loved ones on a regular basis. Checking in with loved ones is a great way to talk about your feelings and anything you’re stressed about.
