Women’s Equality Day
It was a group of passionate, fearless females—much like the trailblazing community of Avon Representatives—that played a role in cinching women’s right to vote. Because of them, we celebrate Women’s Equality Day every August 26th and continue to strive for positive change.
Now let’s take it back to 1886—a whole 34 years before women earned the right to vote. Avon's founder, David H. McConnell, helped give women the chance to earn money on their own terms. He saw the passion women had for the products as well as their love for networking with other women and felt inspired to recruit them as Sales Representatives.
Avon was ahead of its time in offering women the chance to be CEOs of their own businesses:
95 years before the first women was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
77 years before the first woman traveled into space.
76 years before the first women took the reins of a Fortune 500 company.
34 years before women in the U.S. had the right to vote.
17 years before the first women won the Nobel Prize.
After gazing back at how far women have come, it’s impossible not to celebrate.
So go support and shop with an Avon Representative who is fulfilling her dreams. Take it a step further by signing up to become a Representative and becoming your own boss. Share your voice by taking advantage of social media and spreading the word about what matters most to you. After all, mascara can’t change the world, but the woman who wears it can.
At Avon, we empower our community of passionate, driven women—today and every day. We are on a mission to celebrate women’s power to make a beautiful and positive impact in the word…and it starts with you.
