Small Business Saturday : These Reps Have Made the Most of Their Avon Businesses

Small Business Saturday is November 28. In these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever to shop small. Rather than buying from a big box retailer this holiday season, support a small business like your favorite Avon Representative’s store.

Our Representatives are the ultimate small business owners and need our support. When you shop with a Representative, you both reap the benefits—you get gorgeous beauty products while directly helping Representatives provide for themselves. Below, we’re spotlighting inspiring Representatives who have made the most of their Avon businesses.

FROM ENTREPRENEUR TO SAVVY BUSINESS OWNER
Breena Akers initially started selling Avon under another Representative to help fund her son’s 8th grade trip to Dollywood. “I saw the potential in making money and loved the fun I was having, so I decided to start selling for myself,” she says.

Breena’s favorite aspects of running her own business include learning about Avon products, meeting with customers and other Representatives and operating on a flexible schedule. She loves to participate in Small Business Saturday and encourages her customers to shop small. “I always try to do an incentive for my customers and I try to shop local as well,” she says. “I think small businesses need to support each other.”

FROM SHOPPER TO SALESWOMAN
An avid Avon customer, Lisa Kellog became a Representative in order to receive a discount on her own purchases. Lisa became more involved within Avon as a district assistant, where she learned a lot about the company and became inspired to grow her own Representative business. She’s now a Team Leader and has been selling Avon for 11 years. Something that started as a way to save money on her own beauty products has blossomed into a successful small business.

Lisa attributes her business’s success to two things: catering to customers and sharing her passion for the brand. “Number one, I take care of my customers because without them I would have no business,” she says. “The other thing is I’m a walking Avon billboard. I believe in my product, I share my product, and people see that I genuinely love what I’m doing. When we get new products, I have a full-size one with me for a while that I demonstrate. People don’t know what something is like unless they get to see it.”

ALL IN THE FAMILY
Teresa Smith has been a Representative for 13 years, but Avon has been a part of her life since she was a young girl. Teresa’s mom and aunt were both Representatives. “As a little kid, it was so fun to go inside and see other people’s homes and sit there with them as my mom talked to them,” Teresa recalls.

Though she enjoyed watching her family sell Avon, Teresa didn’t join until later in life. She was married with one child, and her family had bills. She asked herself, “how can I bring in extra money to help us with our financial situation?” She became a Representative, and selling and sharing Avon products came naturally. Teresa’s favorite part about selling Avon is interacting with a variety of people—customers and fellow Representatives.

“I have met so many wonderful people in my Avon journey,” she says. “Many of my loyal customers have become really close friends. They lift me up when I am down. They encourage me along the way. They inspire me and believe in me.”

Most of all, Teresa enjoys sharing her passion for Avon with others and views her customers and coworkers more like friends and family. “I'm very blessed and so proud of my Avon business,” she says. “I cannot wait to see who my new friends will be to join me in the future on my Avon journey.”
