During a recent trip to our headquarters in South Korea, Avon’s Social Media Manager, Gigi Gomez, not only got an inside look at LG H&H's Botanical Garden—where ingredients for some of our most popular products are sourced—but she also had the chance to get her makeup done by Hyuna Kim, a professional makeup artist and owner of MIRO Hair Salon & Makeup Studio in South Korea. Gomez visited MIRO to achieve a K-Pop-artist-level glam look, and fortunately for us, she shared a full step-by-step breakdown, including the K-Beauty tips and tricks she learned along the way.   

Skin Prep Is Key 

With South Korea being the origin of the popular and globally sought-after “Glass Skin” look, it comes as no surprise that Gomez’s K-Beauty makeup session began with several steps of skin care. Kim prepped Gomez’s skin by layering on the Beyond Glow Centella Cooling Toner—not once, not twice, but four times. She then soaked a few facial pads in the toner and applied them like a face mask, placing the pads atop Gomez’s forehead, cheeks and nose. Kim explained that for the past few years, there’s been a big trend with layering toner on the skin. Kim then applied moisturizer on top of the toner-soaked pads for even more hydration and treated Gomez’s lips with Beyond Glow Lipcerin Intensive Nourishing Lip Care.  

Kim then removed the facial pads and continued by targeting certain areas of Gomez’s face with the Beyond Glow Niacinamide 10% + Panthenol Serum. Then, she dampened a makeup sponge with Beyond Glow Niacinamide 2% Cream Mist and applied it to Gomez’s skin, which she then followed with the Beyond Glow Centella Soothing Cream, applying it with the same sponge.  

Makeup Is Applied with Gentle Precision 

One thing Gomez noticed during her session was that when it came to makeup, everything was applied with a very “light hand.” While Kim did not hold back when applying skin care, when it came to makeup products, she used a much subtler approach. After the initial skin prep, Kim used a foundation brush to lightly apply TIRTIR Mask Fit Red Cushion Foundation to the top half of Gomez’s face. Then, she added more cream to the lower half of Gomez’s face before applying the foundation there as well, giving her a natural, radiant base. For her eyes, Kim opted for a very soft, neutral look featuring an eyeshadow similar to Gomez’s complexion with a simple winged liner. Kim asked Gomez to keep her eyes open while applying the eyeliner for better precision.  

The Perfect Flush of Color 

Instead of applying blush along the high points of Gomez’s cheekbones—as commonly seen in the U.S.— Kim applied a very light touch of blush just underneath Gomez’s eyes, which Gomez noted is a popular trend in South Korea. Kim used a combination of GO. by Glimmer Whipped Lip & Cheek Tint in the shades Hibiscus Tea and Peony. Kim also spoke with Gomez about the importance of utilizing your personal color palette. It’s even inspired plenty of social media filters aimed to help you find whether your color palette falls within summer, spring, fall or winter. After color matching Gomez, Kim created a custom lip look on her by combining three shades of GO. by Glimmer Lacquered Lip Gel: Waffle Cone, Sunset Rose and Seeing Red.
